Can I transfer my juminhyo*?

You may need to ask the management company fof the house whether you can transfer your jumihyo.

*A juminhyo is a registry of current residential address maintained by local governments in Japan.

Can I have a telephone installed?

No, you can't in most guest houses. Please ask availability.

Do they have access to the internet?

Most guest houses have internet access for free or some charges.
Only a few guest houses allow you to contract with a provider individually.
Wired or wireless may differ from other guest houses.

Can I bring my family and friends?

It depends on your room type and the house regulations.

Can I have any animals as pets?

No, you can't in most guest houses. However, there are a few guest houses which allow you to have animals as pets.

Can I smoke in a guest house?

It depends on the house regulations. Some guest houses allow you to smoke anywhere in the house. Some allow you to smoke at only a smoking area. The others prohibit the residents from smoking in the house.

Is there any parking area for vehicles, motorcycles, and bikes?

There is no parking area for vehicles in most guest houses in metro area, but many of them have a parking area for bikes.

Who cleans facilities and shared places?

Caretakers may clean the entrance, living rooms, kitchens, showers, and baths.
In some guest houses the residents may have a responsibility for cleaning every facility and shared place.

Who takes out the garbage?

You have to take out the garbage at a right place, otherwise you have to follow the house regulations.

Want to know more about kitchens?

A common type of kitchen includes a sink with two to three stoves. Large guest houses may include more than three stoves and a couple of sinks.

Every time you use dishes, plates, and pans, please wash them and return to the same place. Do not leave them for a while.

Please do not leave garbage in a sink.

A number of stoves and sinks is limited. You should avoid spending for a long time in cooking.
● Refrigerators
Please do not eat other residents' food. Please put your name on food just to make sure.
Please do not leave your food for days or weeks.
● Rice Cookers
Once the rice is boiled, you should take out all the rice from the rice cooker because other residents may be waiting.
● Cookware and Dishes
Please wash and return cookware and dishes after you use.
● Sponges and Dishcloths
Sponges and dishclothes may be provided by the house. Please keep them clean.
Shower

Mostly coin-operated, or free

Examples: 100 yen for ten to twenty minutes, or 200 yen for twenty minutes

Washer and Dryer

Mostly coin-operated, 200 yen for each

Please do not leave your cloths in a washer and a dryer for a long time.

Toilet

Cleaning equipment and toilet papers may be provided in most guest houses.

Please keep toilets clean.

Equipment in a Private Room

Air Conditioner

Please clean the filter once in a month. Try not lose the remote.

Futons and Sheets

When you moved in, either new or washed sheets will be provided.
Please wash the sheets frequently.

A Television Set

Try not damaged. Please be careful when you move it.
